AGM REPORT
The football & social club held their Annual General Meeting last Friday evening (22/06/12). The Chairman Zoe Griffiths who had replaced John Evans back in November opened the meeting and thanked everybody who had been involved in the running of the club over the past 12 months. She then informed those present that the club had benefited financially both on and off the field following the appointment of Mark Clyde in June following the resignation of Manager Lee Mills at the end of last season. Under his leadership, the club had finished 10th in the MFA with 62 pts and bought home the Shropshire Challenge Cup, their first taste of County silverware since 1985/86. Besides this, the team had enjoyed an excellent run in, of 13 league games without defeat. (16 games if you include Cup matches) and also enjoyed their best run in the FA Cup in recent years, reaching the 2nd Qualifying round before losing to Long Buckby in front of their highest FA Cup home gate in 22 years.
She praised Reserve team manager Jon Gaff who following his appointment in September had turned the reserves around, following a poor start to the season and they finished a creditable 7th. They also reached the semi finals of the Shropshire Junior Cup losing out to eventual winners Oakengates Athletic.
She acknowledged those who had worked hard in helping to carry out improvements to the ground, which had resulted in the MFA awarding the club an “F” grade which is the minimum requirement to be playing at step 5 and gave special thanks to Eric Eagles who had spent hours working on the ground.
In May, the club had held its first sportsman’s evening and she thanked Mark Clyde and Phil Taylor and all involved in making the night should a success. The proceeds have gone towards improving the playing surface, and Ground maintenance. The juniors have gone from strength to strength and all involved were recognised for their support and contributions and there was hope that some former U16 players would feed into the senior section of the club.
All the objectives that had been laid out at the start of last season had been achieved, and new objectives for the new season identified, one of which was to reduce the number of Cautions which the club had received during the past season and measures were already in place to resolve this next season. Club Membership has seen a 15% year on year increase with 131 members recorded, this figure excludes junior members.
Election of Officers.
Both Zoe Griffiths and Steve Broome were re-elected as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively. The position of Secretary remains vacant. On the night Mark Mcintyre was proposed, but although he was honoured by the proposal he was unable to accept. The position of football secretary also remains vacant. Those present voted in Parkes & Co to act as the clubs accountants.
All the members of the existing committee were re-elected. Five persons, Helen Lloyd, Phil Taylor, Sam Griffiths, Andy Wall, and Caroline Riley were also elected on the night.
All in all this was probably the best AGM that I have attended in recent years. The improvements on and off the field are evident and now is the time for Bridgnorth people to support the club in one capacity or another.
One thing that’s for sure is that Town manager Mark Clyde has used his man management skills to mould together a bunch of young lads who without doubt will be a major force in the Midland Football Alliance next season.
